The Second Wave of Corona Fastened India

• This pandemic has left us all shocked. There are some issues on which all of us as Indians should think through.
• We need to analyze where we went wrong. India did well in the first wave of corona but the second wave shuddered us. All of us failed as a society.
• Also, there was a huge difference between what was reported and the ground reality. The actual numbers present a stark picture of India.
• During the dark period, we also heard stories of the corona warriors and the real heroes. We should felicitate them as what they have done for the nation is commendable.

Vikas Singh Bungla

This precarious second wave of the corona has hit India with greater ferocity than the first wave

• Despite having a year to prepare we have been caught woefully again off guard. It has hit us where it would have hurt us the most.
• Multiple reports of the shortage of the covid-19 drugs and resources surfaced from the different parts of the country.
• According to the observer research foundation, till the end of March India would have produced 360 million doses of the Covisheild and Covaxin.
• But 64.5 million doses have been exported which indicates that the issue is not vaccine production and perhaps the problem is more related to centralized procurement.

We need to analyze where we went wrong

• Large religious gatherings during the second wave of the pandemic should have been avoided. This led to an outbreak of infection in the nation.
• Jobs of many laborers and small workers have been affected because of the covid-19. Unemployment is at its peak.
• The negligence of the government has played a major role in the disastrous spread of the new variant.
• We as citizens are equally responsible for the second wave as we abandoned the use of the preventive measures during the last few months.

The Second Wave is the result of the negligence of the government and the public

• The situation has gotten out of hand this year as we all have failed tremendously to tackle the second variant of Covid-19.
• Organizing the political rallies during the pandemic was a big disaster by the government and the election commission of India.
• Also, the health infrastructure of India has been exposed as we saw people dying due to lack of treatment and shortage of resources.
• The government got sufficient time to prepare for the second wave but even after a year the preparations to handle the second wave were nil.

We need to prepare for the future threats

• The first and foremost problem during this wave was that the public was not fully aware of the updated preventive measures of the second variant.
• We saw that the Bihar government issued guidelines to apply a 6-layer mask but on the other hand, it was distributing a 2-layer mask among the citizens.
• We still have rural areas in India where people are still not serious about Covid-19.
• Black marketing of the Covid resources has also emerged to be one of the greatest issues of these times. We need strict measures to put a ban on it.

L. Hotsali Sangtam

Someone needs to take responsibility for this pandemic

• The election commission is at questions as to why they allowed political parties to organize rallies in West Bengal despite being aware of the spread of the Covid-19.
• We came to know how much India is lacking behind in terms of medical facilities as the medical infrastructure of some of the prominent Indian cities like Delhi collapsed.
• The loss of human lives is the biggest loss we are enduring. The actual figures of death as known on the ground level are unbelievable.
• We need to start taking preventive measures for the third wave to prevent further disaster.

Kamaluddin Raza

Compared to the first wave this time Covid-19 took a petrifying form

• Reporting over 4 lakh cases every other day India set new records of Covid cases across the globe.
• The economy of India fell to the bottom during the first wave itself and now the second wave has completely handicapped the nation.
• Hospitals were facing shortages of oxygen, ventilator, and beds which made the situation worse. We need to find out who was in charge.
• Aggressive vaccination is the need of the hour but now the vaccines are also insufficient.

Nafisa Bano

We overlooked the consequences of the second wave

• The second variant of corona proved to be much more fierce and deadly than the first variant but the causalities could have been avoided as we got a year to prepare.
• Analyzing the present situation it would not be wrong to say that the third wave is also inevitable and hence we should be prepared for it.
• The government and the citizens are equally responsible for the second wave. Organizing large social gatherings over the last few months is the prime factor in the virus outbreak.
• The previous year the lockdown was also applied at the right time but this year the government was busy organizing political rallies rather than keeping a check on the preparations for the second wave.
