1. On 30th January 2020, Covid-19 was confirmed to reach India with the spotting of 1st case in Kerala.
2. February was the month of Delhi election. Aam Aadmi Party retained the Delhi legislature with 62 out of 70 seats.
3. March 2020 witnessed independent India’s first lockdown. It started with Janta curfew on 22nd March’20 and was followed with 21 day lockdown starting 24th March’20.
4. April’20 brought lives vs livelihoods debate with the large scale migration of workers from urban centres to rural India.
5. On 12th May 2020, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi presented the vision for Atmanirbhar Bharat, a set of policies that are efficient, competitive and resilient, and being self-sustaining and self-generating.
6. On 17th June 2020, India wins seat at United Nations Security Council for two year period.
7. On 29th July, 2020, National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), a new policy on education in India was approved by the Union Cabinet.
8. On 5th August, 2020, Narendra Modi performed Bhoomi Pujan and laid the foundation stone of the Ram Temple at Ayodhya.
9. On 14th September 2020, three bills on agricultural reforms, also collectively termed as “Farm Bills” was tabled in Lok Sabha, which approved the bills on 17 September 2020. Rajya Sabha also approved these bills on 20 September 2020 through contentious voice vote. The farm Bills received Presidential assent on 27 September 2020 and consequently has become an act. These Acts have now become a bone of contention between a set of farmers and government.
10. On 28th October, 2020, the crucial three phase election for Bihar Legislative Assembly started. This witnessed a tooth and nail fight between National Democratic Alliance and Mahagathbandan.
11. November 2020 was the month of United States presidential election where Joe Biden of Democratic Party defeated the incumbent Donald Trump of Republican Party by more than 74 million votes. The election saw a record number of ballots cast early and by mail due to the ongoing pandemic, which was hotly contested by Donald Trump.
12. On 12th December, 2020, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave its approval for Pfizer vaccine for emergency use. A week after, FDA approved Moderna’s vaccine to bolster vaccine availability.
