Kerala Covid-19 Infections Rise

Due to a sudden surge in the Covid cases, Kerala is becoming the country’s leading Covid-19 hotspot. A two-day lockdown was announced by the state government whereas the federal authorities are planning to send experts to control the infection’s spread. Government data released earlier this week shows that 7 of Kerala’s 14 districts reported an increasing trend in daily new infections in the last four weeks. The department of disaster management of Kerala announced a complete lockdown with special intensified restrictions being imposed in the areas with high positivity rate.

Kerala accounts for 37.1% of India’s total active cases with a tally of 154,000 covid patients. Overall, the daily cases have fallen after the second wave shuddered India’s healthcare system and the number of vaccinated citizens is increasing but still the experts have warned the authorities to be prepared for the inevitable third wave.

The silver lining amongst all this is that the hospitals have not been overwhelmed yet. Also, Kerala did an admirable job in controlling the spread of the second wave unlike the rest of India. With over 20% fully vaccinated of its eligible population and 52% having received a single jab will also work in Kerala’s favour.
